Canterbury schools take on Planet Kaha

The Catch Fitness Planet Kaha health and fitness programme has now been purchased for to 230 Primary and Intermediate Schools who have gone into lockdown in Canterbury, New Zealand, in response to COVID19.

Initially the Catch Fitness programme was to be rolled out in 31 schools via Sport Canterbury as part of the four-year Healthy Active Learning initiative which the Government has invested $47.6 million in.

The Healthy Active Learning initiative is a joint one between the Ministry of HealthMinistry of Education and Sport New Zealand to support schools, kura and early learning settings to improve child and youth wellbeing through healthy eating and drinking, and quality physical activity. The focus of the initiative is on deciles one to four*.

Prompted by COVID19 and due to the programme’s suitability to the home environment it is now being offered to all primary and intermediate schools in Canterbury.

If you are a primary/intermediate teacher in Canterbury and would like access to this resource, you can contact the Healthy Active Learning team here https://www.sportcanterbury.org.nz/Healthy-Active-Learning/Community-of-Practice

*Decile is from 1-10. Lower decile schools and have more students living in poorer communities. The decile rating is a reflection of the community the school serves, not a measure of the school’s quality.
